As a former hockey player himself, Calen's own experiences navigating the intense mental demands of high-level performance have shaped his caring and trauma-informed approach, allowing him to connect deeply with individuals facing similar challenges.
His areas of focus include working with anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief, low self esteem, relationship issues, as well as sports and performance psychology. His approach primarily stems from the perspective of the adaptive information processing model or EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy), Solution Focused and Mindfulness modalities.
Calen’s interest in the holistic nature of mind, body and emotion stems from his experience within competitive hockey. His perspective is that impactful counselling and therapy involves working with both the mind and the emotional experiences accumulated in the body. His aim is to provide a supportive and encouraging environment where reconditioning the mind and strengthening confidence is possible. He believes the quality of our lives is largely dependent on the quality of our relationships. Through honest confrontation of our patterns lies opportunity for lasting growth and healing.
Calen believes in tailoring each session to meet your individual needs, ensuring that you feel heard and understood every step of the way. Using an integrative approach, Calen combines Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) techniques to help you navigate through your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. This approach allows for a holistic understanding of your challenges and empowers you to make positive changes in your life.
One of the cornerstones of Calen's practice is the emphasis on strengthening somatic awareness. By connecting the mind and body, you can develop a deeper understanding of how your emotions manifest physically. This awareness can be a powerful tool in your journey towards healing and growth.
