How Can Tanya Help?

Since 2008, Tanya has been authorized to diagnose neurodevelopmental and mental health disorders in both Saskatchewan and Alberta. Her expertise spans a wide range of presentations, including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, learning disorders, intellectual giftedness, anxiety, depression, complex trauma, and risk-related concerns across all stages of life.

She provides comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. Whether someone is seeking clarity around a lifelong struggle, exploring a possible diagnosis, or trying to better understand how their mind works, Tanya offers a thorough and thoughtful process. Her work also supports people navigating stress, emotional overwhelm, identity-related concerns, and the everyday challenges that can come with being neurodivergent.

Tanya is especially committed to working with people who have felt misunderstood or overlooked in traditional systems. Her assessments are designed to do more than identify a diagnosis. They shine a light on individual strengths, resilience, and the practical steps that can make a real difference going forward.

Counselling Approaches

Tanya’s assessment practice is trauma-informed, decolonized, and strengths-based, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, transparency, and psychological safety. She is highly attentive to the power dynamics inherent in assessment work and intentionally fosters an environment grounded in trust, respect, empowerment, and clear boundaries.

Her work integrates an understanding of the social determinants of health and critiques the limitations of purely Western frameworks when understanding behaviour and mental health. This allows her to provide more contextually informed and culturally responsive interpretations of assessment results.

With a background spanning school divisions, post-secondary institutions, private practice, and First Nations communities, Tanya brings a systems-informed lens to her work. She previously served for over six years as Associate Dean of Student Supports at Red Deer Polytechnic, where she oversaw mental health services, accessibility supports, risk assessment processes, and institutional crisis response. She also led the development and implementation of the RDP Student Mental Health Strategy 2025–2028, giving her a deep understanding of systemic pressures impacting students and families.

More About Tanya

Beyond her professional work, Tanya is a proud mom of three neurodivergent and twice-exceptional boys who have both struggled and thrived in education depending on their environment. Their experiences continue to fuel her passion for inclusive education and advocacy for neurodiversity-affirming practices.

Tanya is adventurous and fun-loving, having lived in Australia and travelled widely, including African safaris. She finds joy in nature, movement, and spending meaningful time with family and friends. At home, she shares life with two cats, a bearded dragon, and a three-legged pit bull rescue. Her hobbies include camping, nature walks, reading, baking, cooking, and gardening.

Tanya also identifies as neurodivergent herself and has diagnoses of ADHD (Combined Presentation) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder, which deepens her understanding and empathy in both her personal and professional life.
