Crystal has experience working with individuals (youth & adults), couples and group therapy. Some areas of focus include: substance use, anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, PTSD, attachment, family of origin, relationship issues, emotional regulation, assertiveness, shame, anger and self-esteem concerns.
Crystal is a highly trained Addiction therapist. Crystal’s approach is to help clients identify, and deal with the issues that lead to substance use, and with treating the emotional and psychological challenges that are often associated (i.e., loss of self-worth, anger, loneliness, confusion, despair). She has the skills, compassion, and strength to help clients regain wellbeing in their life.
Crystal is skilled in treating clients with the therapeutic approach consistently shown to reduce anxious and depressive symptoms. While using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), her therapeutic approach encourages emotional processing in session, and the use of other strategies outside of session to keep the momentum. Working with me individuals gain insight into how their mind, emotions and body has been responding, and how to regain control.
Crystal has a keen interest in couples counselling with a focus on how family of origin issues and trauma impact emotional regulation and attachment. In couple’s counselling there are strong associations between the quality of one’s couple relationships and many mental health issues and addictions. Couples counselling provides an opportunity for a couple to learn strategies to cultivate a nurturing relationship.
Crystal takes a client centred approach to therapy realizing there is a no “one size fits all” approach to treatment. She addresses client problems using a physical, emotional, psychological & spiritual approach, which increases the likelihood of treatment success.
Crystal utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness based Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Trauma Focused Therapy and EMDR. She has extensive experience utilizing Motivational Interviewing, which is the gold standard technique for engaging individuals in the process of change.
Crystal looks forward to exploring with the client their individual strengths & hopes and in turn to promote understanding, growth and healing.
