Cara is a provisional registered psychologist and a member of the College of Alberta Psychologists. Cara has over 10 years of experience within the mental health field working with both youth and adults in the areas of anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, crisis response, suicidal ideation, autism, and schizophrenia. Her passion for supporting individuals with mental health concerns is as longstanding as it is genuine; reflected via a professional career dedicated to offering support to individuals on their unique journey to healing and improved quality of life.

Presently, she is completing her designation as a Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner and is a member of the Perinatal Institute International.

Being a mother to her two sons has enriched Cara’s experience as a counsellor. Her passion for supporting women was fine-tuned towards mothers/parents in the perinatal period after her own journey equipped her with a greater understanding of, and empathy for, the unique and challenging world of parenthood.

There are many misconceptions and myths that exist within the perinatal period that can falsely or ill-prepare parents for the journey; perpetuating the suffering cycle of common parenthood struggles.

While every parent is unique, common challenges within the perinatal period can include, but are by no means limited to: anxiety, depression, birth trauma, intrusive thoughts, nursing issues and/or aversion, relationship challenges, sleep deprivation, identity and adjustment issues. Reaching out for support and speaking to your experiences is an essential part of alleviating suffering and improving your quality of life.

“I believe our working relationship is the most essential piece to our therapeutic journey. I offer a safe space to be open and honest about your experiences. I offer individualized therapy, customized to align with your specific and evolving needs. My approach leaves room for flexibility and utilizes a feedback-informed approach that ensures we remain focused and relevant to your real-time needs.

My eclectic approach to therapy stems from a firm belief that therapy shouldn’t be ‘one size fits all’. Instead, I pull from various therapeutic modalities, such as; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Client Centered, Solution Focused, Strength-Based, EMDR, and Mindfulness Practices.

If you suffer with mental health concerns and are looking for a supportive space to explore and positively affect these concerns, please reach out for a 15-minute phone consultation so we can determine together whether I am a good fit to provide the support you seek.
