She is a Registered Provisional Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and is a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Alyssa has obtained extensive education and training in the field of counselling psychology, and provides beneficial and effective therapy services to clients with a variety of presenting concerns.
Alyssa specializes in relationship and couples therapy and has obtained Gottman Level 1 and Level 2 certification. Alyssa believes that opening lines of communication that are creative, and are based in active listening and understanding, can play a role in strengthening a relationship between two people. When we seek to understand rather than assume, we are able to increase intimacy and friendship and become able to work through conflicts in a productive manner, as opposed to a damaging one. This brings us closer to finding shared meaning in a relationship and Alyssa hopes to continue helping couples strengthen their problem solving and conflict resolution skills while also building trust, intimacy and alignment within their relationships.
Alyssa provides treatment in the following areas:
- relationship/couples/premarital & marital concerns
- separation and divorce counselling (couples & parents)
- eating disorders
- depression, suicidality
- workplace stress
- codependency and self-esteem issues
- grief and loss
Alyssa works from a positive and person-centered counselling lens and works with her clients to identify their personal strengths and empower them towards meaningful growth and change. She believes that strength and hope can be found in the darkest of places if an individual or couple is provided the right space, approach and treatment plan. She places great importance in the alliance that is formed between the client and therapist, and takes the time to truly get to know her clients in the initial session, so that she can create a well-suited, individualized and effective treatment plan.
