Jacob works with individuals, couples, and families of all structures, gender identities, sexualities, ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to achieve balance and harmony in their lives.
He has years of experience helping adolescents and adults who are living with a variety of mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, anger, grief, relationship issues and more. He is also comfortable with helping clients struggling with problematic pornography use or other problematic acting out behaviours to understand and achieve freedom from their addictive patterns.
Jacob uses a direct and non-judgmental approach to helping clients find the answers they need to overcome their present struggles. He believes that the part of our past that happens outside of our control plays a large role in our development, and that no matter the past, our present is still our choice.
Jacob takes an integrative approach to therapy, using reality therapy as a lense for therapeutic planning. In his experience, there is not a single box that a client can or should fit into, so you may see him use Gestalt exercises to externalize the troublesome emotion and de-pathologize your struggle. He may lead you in mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural exercise to help you understand and accept the distressing emotions that distort your thoughts and give you homework to practice catching those thoughts before they turn to actions.
