Diana Izard is a Registered Social Worker with over 12 years experience in the field of social work and 6 years post-graduate experience with a Master’s of Social Work – Clinical Specialization from the University of Calgary. Diana is passionate about working with people of all ages (3+) and cultural backgrounds.
She supports children, youth, families and individuals with anxiety, stress, developmental disabilities, ASD, eating disorders, relationship problems, separation/divorce, ADHD, behavioural challenges, self-esteem, foster/adoption among other concerns.

She is especially interested in working with children (3+), teenagers, and adults living with anxiety disorders, developmental trauma, and childhood trauma. She also provides support and training for parents. Her hope is to help you build meaningful connections to face life's challenges.

She uses a broad range of approaches to engage young people and adults in her counselling sessions including play therapy, art, mindfulness, storytelling, nature-based healing and other digital media. Over 10 Years of Experience
Diana has over 10 years of experience working with children and adolescent in individual, family and group counselling settings, as well as working with education, youth justice and child welfare systems. She has specialized training in play-based treatment of trauma, divorce and attachment-based parenting as well as an interest in community advocacy work.
Training in Play Therapy
Play therapy is a counselling approach designed to help young children express complex thoughts, feelings, and memories through creativity, play time, and games. Diana complete training through RMPTI: Level one, level two (advanced). She also has additional specialty certificates in play based treatment of trauma, parental separation/divorce, and Adlerian Play Therapy.
With specialized training in play-based treatment of trauma, divorce and attachment-based parenting and an interest in community advocacy work, Diana’s work experience includes working within education, youth justice and child welfare systems.
Diana has worked with Children's Services
Diana has worked with Children’s Services providing caregiver support to foster/kinship families within the context of child development, trauma, grief and loss related to being in care. She offers attachment based parenting strategies including caregiver affect management (emotional regulation), Circle of Security parenting principles and play based strategies to improve the parent/child connection.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Children, Teens, and Adults
Among other modalities, Diana uses cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) while working with children, teens, and adults. Also, she has adapted it for use with children in schools. She worked as a junior high counsellor in a behaviour/mental health program for 4 years, offered in-school mentoring in collaboration with the City of Calgary and Calgary Police.
Facilitator in Group Therapy Sessions
She has extensive experience creating and running child, adolescent and parent groups including a teen anxiety programs, multiple family programs for divorced and nuclear families, in school groups such as leadership, social skills, friendships and girls groups.
